I am getting my worst in show out of the way because what the hell was that? Did Harvey Nichols even do a window this year? It feels like they skipped Christmas and went right to New Year. I always feel like windows, particularly Christmas windows are the avenue to create fantasy and to draw your consumer into the magic of the season and in so doing, help them open up their wallets. Yes, this is incredibly commercial but also convey a magic that is not typically present throughout the year and Harvey Nichols it seems did not get the memo. And so, the Christmas windows were not there. Whatever that is, it is not.
HARRODS

Harrods: I did not love it. It is cold and unfeeling. And here’s my thing with Harrods, this is the 3rd time I believe it has concentrated on a brand, this window is sponsored by Bang and Olufsen hence the coldness because it lacks a narrative, technology can be very cold hence this window is rather cold. Last years’ was Loro Piano which was good, because it dealt with the story of the brand whilst weaving in Christmas, and the Dior window was absolutely resplendent.
HARRODS

This year, its simply, I hate to over egg the proverbial Christmas pudding, but cold and unfeeling, there is no softness, it cannot be penetrated with the joy of the season… it is simply removed. And that’s a disappointment because Harrods is typically my top 2 or top 3. Better luck next year I guess.
