Tis the season for the summer wedding and as always we are going to sort out our wardrobe and make sure we are not in the quintessential madness of always trying to figure out what to wear to what wedding and if like me, you have a few invites to sort through for the summer, feel free to apply this edit liberally to all occasions even the ones we will not be honouring because let’s face it not every party needs our presence.
The English Country Wedding:
The quintessential countryside, you want to be very demure, very mindful, a fascinator would do and something floral when in doubt, go as a goddamn bouquet of hydrangeas. Florals for summer are pretty damn charming.
The French Riviera:
As far as locations go this is a hard one to beat. Everything about the French riviera is dreamy and equally sexy and so for this we are going full tilt sexy but not to upstage the bride or ruffle feathers but a sophisticated tilt to sexy would do just nicely here.
The Italian Riviera:
Is there anything dreamier than an Italian riviera wedding? No, no there is not and so we are going to be full on dreamy with aplomb. If there is one thing Italians have it’s a zest for life; dolce vita, cliché as it is, is not simply a saying it is a way of life, so we are going to be a suit full of clichés and then some. But maybe tone the cliché a little bit down.
Hampton Court Palace:
I am very specific about this location because it happens to be my favourite of the palaces… not that I like palaces or have been to many; that includes Buckingham Palace because I am averse to places like this, still, I have been to Windsor castle and when you’ve seen one, you’ve them all. Hampton Court Palace was known as Henry VIII’s pleasure palace and everything about this palace pleasurable and it manages to be a little less stuffy; a king’s playground full of many places to hold his six wives. So I envision a summer wedding here, on the grounds surrounded by the resplendent garden. When in London you should take a tour of this palace it is quite lovely. And for this we are going proper with a side of playful, we are in a pleasure palace after all. Yes, the florals apply, and the tea length also applies.
The Moroccan Riviera;
Essaouira: this is a dream location, my favourite place in Morocco to vacation after the hustle of Marrakech. Essaouira is a dream with a rare kind of charm, an enclave filled with good food, an easy vibe and a particular kind of charm. The perfect summer wedding destination with the bustling sea as a backdrop.
