What do you do when you find yourself awake from an eight-hour night that started at 7pm? Make yourself a lemon martini of course. I am obviously in my lemon era what with all the posts from the Amalfi coast and missing the lemons especially, so I decided one night at 3am to make myself a martini. Don’t worry it wasn’t a business day it was a Friday into the weekend. 3am on a Saturday morning.
I love this cocktail for the simplicity of the ingredients.
Ingredients:
- ¼ cup of really good vodka. I use a beluga vodka that was a gift from a Russian friend.
- 1 tablespoon of Cointreau.
- 1 ½ tablespoons of freshly squeezed lemon (if you ever have a chance to try this cocktail on the Amalfi coast it will in fact change your life) but also come home with Amalfi lemons.
- 1 tablespoon of simple syrup (its fine, I buy these bottled from Sainsburys because I don’t have the time or patience or inclination to make these.)
Optional: Peel of one lemon for sprinkling or Rind of a quarter lemon for the twist. OR you can also prep your lemon sugar; rind of one lemon and a table spoon of sugar, sugar the rim and freeze.

How to:
- First things first, freeze the cocktail glass. I have taken to doing this recently when I make my cocktails and it’s a game changer.
- Build your drink by adding all the ingredients in a cocktail shaker, crushed or cubed ice and shake for 25 seconds or until you hear the ice dull in thud. Learned this trick from the Masterclass, you’ll know when you hear it because the ice will no longer sound sharp.
- Next, and this is a very optional step; twist the peel of one lemon or rind one lemon to sprinkle on the cocktail… I tried this on the second glass I made, and I preferred it to the sugared lemon. It’s up to you but this is an optional step that worked for me. Just a little goes a long way.
- Pour.
- Drink.
Cheers.
