Scoring The Player’s Baby- Naima Simone

The blurb:after a divorce from her cheating football player ex, PR whiz Kim Matlock would rather drive a pine tree through her walled-off heart than work at the Seattle Wedding Expo. And the last thing she expects is to be grabbed and kissed breathless by a hot giant of a man looking to fend off a stalker. She doesn’t want emotional entanglements, but she can’t say no to one scorching night with the sexy stranger.

To her shock, she finds out afterward that a) he’s a pro football player, aka her kryptonite, and b) she’s pregnant.

But nothing could have prepared her for his response…

Of all the Scorings, there are three books in this series, this is my favourite; it is the perfect way to do a cinnamon roll. I love a big hard man who is just soft on the inside for the heroine and Ronin is soft and so sweet; perfectly formed, perfectly risen cinnamon rolls for a Saturday morning. if you’ve made cinnamon rolls from scratch you will know what I mean. Kim Matlock is my kind of girl; cold and too old for the bullshit. Fresh off a very public divorce where her ex-husband cheated on her with several women including prostitutes, it made the news and the blogs and left a very bitter taste in her mouth so much so, by the time she got out of dodge she wants nothing to do with that life and that includes Matt, her ex, the baller who lived that life with all those trappings.

And then a one-night stand with one very handsome, very hot, very sexy stranger following a day spent at a wedding expo, makes things a bit complicated on the “getting out of that life” scenario but it is all unbeknownst to her until the morning after, the bombshell drops on her phone that Ronin is in fact tight end for the Washington Wolves.

SHIT! Just what and who she does not need. Another baller and another round of media situation.

But it doesn’t just stop there, oh no, Kim gets knocked from that one-night stand and what follows is a delightful game of push and pull where Kim pushes and Ronin just keeps pulling her back to him. Put it in my damn veins! I love this plot point so much.

When it comes to the story, this is as unfussy as it comes, to see a love unfold and one party fold before the other, and it is typically the party we do not expect to fold because, why would a footballer who can get any woman, has been with the most beautiful of women, keep getting drawn back to the one night stand who is now knocked up with his child?

Why won’t he run for the hills?

Why won’t he just see her when the child is born?

Why must he make every scan and doctor’s appointment with her, and feels like a dick when he misses one?

Why would he bring her food from three different restaurants because she could have a sensitive palette brought on by pregnancy?

Because Ronin is not just that guy, he is falling and folding faster than he can say hut! or whatever it is they say in American football, but he does not want to admit it to himself just yet.
