Cords are proof that you should never throw out anything in your closet that is not a trend. Cords aren’t trends, your grandfather wore them. Your father wore them. You’ll wear them and pass them down because there is something everlasting about a pair of corduroy trousers; for starters, they are tough as nails. It wears extremely well and often looks better well worn and put through the grind which is how you know its staying power.

Every few fashion cycle, cords will be on the next big trend menu, and editors everywhere will pretend to be the reinventing wheel of genius in their “how to wear” them but this is not our first rodeo, we’ve been here before, so wear as you wish; with a white t-shirt, a dress shirt, a grey sweater; especially lovely with brown cords, as a two piece, or with suspenders…. they are the most versatile piece, as versatile as denim and possibly even more wearer friendly.

It comes out looking battered and broken from the shops and it is something you can picture on a senior with a flat cap and tweed jacket and possibly market bag, shuffling their way up the road to the market or on some slow living errands or to join his mates for a game of dominoes in the town square in some small town in Italy. It is a soft and gentle fabric that looks as old as it feels and as gentle as it is. It is one of the hardest working pieces in a wardrobe anyone can have. It makes sense that I have seen it everywhere this season; I know you have a pair in your wardrobe, roll it out for a rewear. Who says we aren’t sustainable eh. Now if you tell me gypsy is coming back in fashion I will start a fight.
