CHRISTMAS WINDOWS | SELFRIDGES

Best in show by a country mile! Because Selfridges really said if there is a prize I am taking it. I AM TAKING ALL THE PRIZES. I would imagine sitting round the table in the visual merchandising strategy meeting for Christmas, no ideas were off limits. It came, it ate and left NO CRUMBS.

Selfridges, take a bow.

Selfridges did NOT come to play it came to take all the prizes and you know what? She is taking it all. It put on a show starring all the characters of the season. The Christmas Tree being a diva, the turkey feast for our eyes, the twirling ballerina, a most perfect gift for a little one if ever there was one, the applause worthy gift that take centre stage, coming from the workshop of the elves who are of course represented here hard at work, the belle of the bauble, the candy cane man and of course the star of the show which is typically the ornament that sits atop the tree. This was a magnificent way to tell the story of Christmas and to capture the essence of its magic whatever way you might be inclined to fall. It is one of togetherness and love, yes gifts too of course but it ties in all the elements that often brings us all together this season, the usual suspect and the side-liners, typically elves who work goes largely unnoticed aka; Mom and Dad.

Of course there is the showstopper that deserves the applause; Santa also Mum and Dad who deliver the goods. It is all encompassing and you get the sense that Selfridges really wanted to go hard on Christmas this year, really wanted to strike that special something that brings it all together.

The mannequins and costumes, the stories it seeks to tell remain but also, on the one hand you might think of that IT clown laughing maniacally with the way the belle of the bauble twirls on her bubble, and maybe the candy cane man looks like that scary man in the neighbourhood… dude I grew up in the nineties we all knew that man. But that is the dark joke loving side of me coming to the fore, because that is what this window sparks; IMAGINATION. This was a fine way to usher in the holidays. And yes, it is showtime.

Best in Show: Selfridges. It takes it all! There is joy, there is love, there is laughter, there is the ever loving chaos that comes with Christmas, that spirit of togetherness and the good times to be had. It evokes the feeling of the holidays whether you are hoping from party to party or fussing over the star that should sit atop the tree, wonky or straight. This is a Christmas window for the ages, they put on a real show because it is a show stopper.
