CHRISTMAS WINDOWS – HARVEY NICHOLS

The merry go round that is Christmas. This is too high octane to be Christmas it is more suited to New Year’s Eve. I think it’s the colours, actually I know it’s the colours. Christmas wonderland which is reminiscent of the winter wonderland not five minutes from the store but where is the warmth? It’s loud and playful and colourful but it is all those elements separately and this is where some warmth would have tied it well together,

All that being said it is incredibly fun and wild, that sugar rush leading up to the holidays that filters through the days leading up to it. Parties. Dinners. Shows. Shopping. It is all captured here in this pin sharp and vibrate display. I always find that Harvey Nics does excellent windows throughout the year but then always veer left when it comes to Christmas like it want to skip right through and go to New Year’s Eve or that it tries too hard to be hip and fun which Christmas can be but then it leaves one feeling cold.

I liked it well enough but did not love it because it lacked that quintessential charm of Christmas. It was too high fashion, too silver, too… cold that is the only word that comes to mind. Complete with the outsized Christmas bubble head mannequins which at times can be just weird.

One thing is for sure though some stores got the fairground memo because a few stores seem to have gone that route.
