Richard Nicoll is feeling for the new kind of cool woman and this is how he wants to dress her. I ain’t mad at that. Nothing is sexier than a confident woman. This was easy rider meets super high fashion which resulted in a most appealing form that stopped a good several inches shy of being the uncompromising boxy shapes we saw in New York. A seamless fusion of boy meets girl with just enough of both sexes to make this a stand out collection. It was Nicoll at his utmost confident and comfortable, that much was apparent through out. It smacked of something non-conformist with just enough disturbance to make this collection anything but ordinary. This was the very pleasant middle ground of high fashion; the oversize coat, impeccably tailored pieces, the simple elegant midi dress, the duffer meets biker style coat with the pretty shift dress, knitwear, possibly borrowed from the boy, over a shirt with a leather pencil skirt… A flawless juxtaposition of complimentary shapes, techniques that speak to Nicoll’s mastery, especially special was the croc effect, fresh colour palettes; beautiful grey, mild to sharp tones of orange, camel, navy… which lent an even more of a feminine appeal and softened out what could have been a hard-nosed menswear look. One of the best in show from London.
