For me dessert is a food group. I have been known to have a cupcake for breakfast, a macaroon for lunch and a donut for dinner, three square meals. No joke. I love dessert and if my hips would lie I’d eat dessert every single day. In my ideal world there are no calories in cupcakes.
In London, the best cupcakes are from Lola’s. They make some bad ass cupcakes like no other and I should know because I’ve had my fill of them. I once journeyed to Reading for a cupcake…I know, don’t ask. Lola’s red velvet kicks all the other red velvet cupcakes asses out there. Yes, even Hummingbird. The proof is in the frosting, its creamier, no coarseness of icing sugar and its absolutely delicious.

Now, I know the red velvet is the holy grail of cupcakes but I’ve found three flavours from Lola’s sure to kick the red velvet cupcake’s behind into irrelevance. These three cupcakes take the cupcake cake…so to speak and you will love them. Of that I’m sure. You can thank me later. 😉
I’m not a huge fan of tiramisu but this cupcake is simply glorious. Its perfectly moist, nicely subtle and not at all over powering.
Blueberry. I’ve discovered that the only way you’ll get me to eat fruit is to bury it in dessert, with the vanilla sponge, cream frosting and crushed blueberries at the bottom this little beast is heavenly.
And now for my favourite, Carrot with Pecan and Praline, exclusive to Harrods, ALL OF THAT. This has to be the five star of all cupcakes. Carrot cake is meant to be the healthiest of the cakes so this comes with all the bonus points of a decadent dessert with half the sin. What’s not to love, pecan, pralines, delicious frosting…
